Finally that inaccessible bit of wall under the eaves had to be finished. Karl worked partly from the ladder and the rest from the scaffolding which is only just high enough.
And then the extension was painted. Finally finished outside. Scaffolding down, ladders put away. And Karl went off for the first part of the sailing season.
In the meantime, I went ahead with the garden.
I ordered 3 cbm of humus to raise the bed next to the patio and to provide it with soil suitable for azaleas and rhododendrons. What came was fairly sandy and the organic content was not quite what I had envisaged, so I added horse manure, turf and special sacks of rhodo soil.
When Karl came home in August we painted the rest of the house.
While we had the hoist. Karl did other work on the roof too. Unfortunately it wasn't the model we had ordered and it didn't reach as far across the East wall as planned. The rest had to be done from the ladder, the scaffolding or hanging out of the attic window.
The house looks a lot nicer now. We still have those grey asbestos shingles on the West side, but they need special paint.

We bought stones to cover the gap along the wall.
980 kgs of them...

The virginia creeper is off to a good start. Probably one day we'll wish it didn't grow so fast, but now we are counting the centimetres.

"He, hallo, I can see you're up! Where's my bread? - Bye the way, is my chum Oliver there? No? Well say hallo to him for me, won't you?"
