January 2003

The first snow fell on December 31st, not much but enough to transform the landscape into a winter wonderland.

Indoors, work progresses day by day.
For instance, the hole in the ceiling has been enlarged where the spiral staircase will be installed.

Once the central support had been cut out, the packs of mineral wool and the bath tub could be hauled up.

Then the central column of the spiral staircase was fitted (view from above).

In the meantime the roof insulation was growing.

Blue foil, then rockwool wedges, then another layer of foil.

Then plasterboard - as here in the new bathroom:

In the old bathroom the shower curtain has been replaced:

Although not yet walled in, the fireplace is put to good use. It's the only way to make work indoors bearable and to keep the frost out of the pipes already laid. We get the wood from the sawmill - nice chunks of beams that burn for a long time.

This is what the underfloor heating looks like. The pipes are fixed to a fibreglass mat and are covered with a copper wire grid to spread the heat. In the cold, the pipes are so stiff, we haven't got them laid out in their final position yet.
