June 2003

The foundations for the greenhouse were made in March. Hard work as everything had to be brought round to the garden, but our neighbour suggested we went through her garden with the wheelbarrow to avoid our narrow steps.

Getting the greenhouse together took quite a long time. It came with a video and a manual but even so, there were so many parts and the manual was written for several different sizes.

But finally it stood and soon after its window got an automatic opener. It needed heating at night several times until the last frosts were over by the end of May. Even in April it went down to minus 12.7°C.

What's Karl up to now? He's cutting a hole through the wall, from the flat into the former storeroom (I still can't call it the living room as it is still a storeroom, but now for all our own building material!) This was heavy dirty work and the fine dust settled all over the place. It was like smoke in the garage when I came home from work and despite the plastic sheeting, it had gone through keyholes and settled everywhere - including Karl's head which made him look 70...
As the flat and the extension are on different levels, steps had to be cut out of the floor.
After months of storage the solar collectors finally got up on the roof.

- and the "ship" weather vane Chris and Oliver brought us from England too.

In the meantime we had leveled the floor in the bedroom, so that we could put the floorboards down:

And although the flooring isn't ready we moved up into the new bedroom, to make the old one into a guest room.
So that's the state of affairs by June 2003...
